AFTERNOON TEA AT THE HAY ADAMS

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea". - Henry James

When it comes to feeling pampered, an afternoon tea always does the trick. As soon as the tiered tray of delights is set on the table and hot tea begins to pour into my delicate patterned teacup I am instantly transported to my own personal Downton Abbey fantasy.

Steps from the White House my car pulled up to the driveway of the Hay Adams. From the moment my car door was opened for me and a spring breeze had my skirt fluttering in the wind as I entered the walnut-wainscot lobby I knew I was in for a special afternoon.

Located on the 9th floor of the Hay Adams, Lafayette offers afternoon tea Saturday and Sunday at 3:00pm. Directly overlooking Lafayette Square, the White House, and the Washington Monument this unique dining experience will spoil you with unparalleled views of Washington, D.C.

Seated in the bright and beautiful dining room, listening to the soft notes of the piano while being attended to by an incredibly attentive and kind wait staff I imagine this is what it must feel like to be a princess.

For $55.00 per person, you will enjoy a pot of tea with a delightful assortment of tea sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats prepared by pastry chef, Elenor Apolonio-Frantz. They offer a modified option for children, think ham cheese instead of smoked salmon. ($35.00 4-12 years).
